Akar Mentawai is only a 10-minute drive from the harbour of Tua Pejat, the main harbour of the Mentawai Islands, and a 30-minute drive from the airport of Rokot, the only airport in the archipelago.

To get to the Mentawai Islands, you first need to travel to Padang (Sumatra) and then take a ferry to Tua Pejat (Sipora Island).
Currently, the easiest way to get to Padang is by flying from Jakarta or Kuala Lumpur, and recently also Singapore.
The Mentawai Fast ferry connect Padang to the Mentawai 4 times a week, every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday, and usually takes 3.5 hours to reach Tua Pejat. Akar Mentawai is only a 10-minute drive from the harbour.

Due to the ferry schedule, an overnight stay in Padang is required both when arriving to and departing from the Mentawai Islands.
